Abbiamo raggiunto via web, il
Maestro Arthur Kottas –Heldenberg. Ha appena concluso un
ciclo di clinic in America sull’in hand work /double longe.
Come ha deciso di entrare nella
Spanish Riding School di Vienna ed ora, quella esperienza di vita, cosa ha
lasciato di indelebile, come ricordi e strumenti di lavoro?
“Dopo ben 42 anni, non potrò mai dimenticare i miei cavalli,
i miei Maestri e la fortuna di essere stato un tempo membro della prestigiosa
SRS...”
Quanto tempo ha dedicato allo
studio dell’in hand work ,e soprattutto,
dell’arte della doppia longe?
“Non bisogna
mai smettere di imparare. Si può sempre migliorare...tutto
dipende dal fatto se si ha talento o meno per il “Work in
hand!”
Ovviamente ogni cavallo ha
bisogno di un diverso tipo di approccio, vero? Anzi, quale razza lei preferisce
per lavorare alla doppia longe? Dati i suoi trascorsi, possiamo dire i
Lipizzani?
“ Mi piace
lavorare con ogni tipo di cavallo di ogni razza. Se c’è un errore, sappiate che non è il cavallo a sbagliare, ma si
tratta di un errore del trainer.”
Durante i suoi clinics in giro
per il mondo e specialmente in USA, lei incontra e lavora i soggetti per la
prima volta o chiede di vederli un po’ prima per capire meglio le
problematiche ed evitare rischi?
“Quando si ha
una certa esperienza, come me, si ha la possibilità di
cominciare dall’inizio con molta fiducia e
rispetto”
Che tipo di problemi si possono
correggere con il lavoro da terra/ doppia longe sui cavalli che incontra
durante i clinics, cavalli da dressage o salto ostacoli. Può dire di più?
“Ci sono
molte soluzioni per correggere ogni problema!”
Lavoro da terra, longe e doppia
longe. Quanto è utile per il cavallo sportivo
inteso come cavallo da dressage, salto ostacoli e completo?
“ Un training
corretto è per tutti i cavalli obiettivo ed elemento utile”
Dove si reca per svolgere i suoi
clinics e Master Class, oltre agli USA?
“In molte parti
d’Europa, ed ogni mese in Slovenia, Lipica”
Dove vive adesso?
“A Vienna”

E’ mai stato in Italia? Cosa conosce del dressage italiano?
“Sono stato molte volte in Italia in vacanza. Conosco alcuni cavalieri e
trainers internazionali”
Tutti i cavalli possono lavorare
alla longe, doppia longe?
“Come ho
detto sopra, quando c’è un problema, l’errore non è da imputare
al cavallo, ma al trainer. La cosa importante da sottolineare è che noi non
dobbiamo “spingere” il cavallo dobbiamo invitarlo
a fare qualcosa”

Durante la sua eccellente
carriera di tecnico, ha mai avuto problemi, per esempio cavalli che si
difendono o che si oppongono alle richieste. Come ha risolto?
“ Non ho mai
avuto problemi del genere. Perché io so come maneggiare ogni tipo
di cavallo differente!”
Si corrono dei rischi con questo
tipo di lavoro tecnico? Quale è il limite, il punto massimo che
il longeur non deve raggiungere, ma deve sentire e fermarsi molto prima?
“Se si lavora
con i cavalli c’è sempre un rischio. Ma se si sa
come fare, allora si è salvi, si è al riparo”
Ogni cavaliere, ogni coach può pensare di effettuare questo tipo di lavoro?
“Certamente!
Se ci si prepara bene e se si riesce a controllare il proprio temperamento”

Nota:
Arthur
Kottas Heldenberg, primo Chief Rider alla Spanish Riding School
di Vienna , Austria dal 1995 al 2003. E’ entrato a far parte dell’SRS a soli 15
anni ed è stato il Bereiter più giovane dal 1981 al 1995 e Chief Rider nella
storia. Ha mantenuto questa posizione da allora. Successivamente si è ritirato
ma vive sempre in Austria. Continua ad essere un ricercato allenatore per i
massimi livelli.

“we have not to push our partner horse, we have to
invite him/her”
We have reached on web, The Master Arthur Kottas -Heldenberg. He has just
completed a series of clinic in USA

How did you decide to enter to SRS and now, what has
left, as memories and as work tools?
“After 42 years you will never forget your horses your trainers and your
luck that you were once a member of SRS.”

How long it took to learn the art of in hand work and
especially the double longe art?
“You can never stop to learn, you can always improve, depends if you are
talented for work in hand or not.”

Different horses need different approaches: is it
right? And what kind of horse race do you prefer for double longe ? Lipizzaner?
“Any horse and any breed. It's not the horses fault if there is a problem,
it's the trainers fault.”

During your clinics, around the world, and most of the
time, in USA
“If you have experience like I do I can start from beginning with a lot of
trust and respect.”

What problems must correct on horses you meet during
clinics, on dressage or jumping horses. Please, can you describe?
“There are many solutions to correct any problems.”

Work in hand, longe and double longe work. How much is
it useful on the sport horse – dressage, eventing and jumping one?
“Correct training is for all horses the goal and helpful”

Where do you go for work horses, we say USA
“In many parts in Europe and every month also in Lipica , Slovenia

“In Vienna”

“I was in Italy

Every horse can work on longe –double longe?
It's not the horses fault when there is a problem, it's like I said above
the trainers fault. One important thing is, we have not to push our partner
horse, we have to invite him/her.

Have you ever had some problems in your excellent
career, I think horse defenses or rebelliousness?How you solved them?
“Never. Because I know how handle any horse.”

Are there some risks? And most important: the limit of
the in hand work/ double longe. Is there a stop point the longeur has to know
and understand?
“If you work with horses there is always a risk, but if you know how to do
it, then you are save.”

Every rider, every coach could do this work?
“Yes, of course if he is well trained and he/she can control his/her
temperament “

Note:
Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg was the first chief rider at
the Spanish Riding School (SRS) in Vienna, Austria, from 1995 to 2003. He joined
SRS as a 15-year-old eleve. He was their the youngest bereiter (1981 to 1995)
and chief rider in history. He kept that position from. Now retired from SRS
and still based in Austria, he continues to be a sought-after trainer through
